Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences increasing in influence within the city.
Note: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Combat-Oriented Party Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a major cliffhanger and presented the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Why Split the Party?
Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
Characteristics of the Combat Party
As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where non-violent answers are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his personal gain, invading the secret base, assaulting the rogue, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a personal reason to leave the city the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their status as key figures in the powerful family could enable the party access places they normally couldn’t.
- Moreover, The grateful character vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now accompany him everywhere.
Pursued by Authorities
Finally, all of them are wanted by the authorities that govern the setting for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- Thimble and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- The warrior and The healer turned against the powerful family and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them no alternative but to journey toward the remote area in quest for the antagonist.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Schemers groups.
