Micky van de Ven Double Ends Everton's Unbeaten Streak at New Stadium

Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Spurs extended their unbeaten run in away games in the top division and handed the Toffees their initial loss at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

The Toffees were undefeated in their five previous fixtures at their new ground at Bramley-Moore Dock, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of last season.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck on two occasions from corners in the first half to put their strong form at jeopardy, and they were unable to mount a comeback before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward the Brazilian - nodded in a final goal to seal the victory.

Jake O'Brien thought he had levelled the tally a short while after Van de Ven's opener, glancing a powerful header past the Spurs keeper from an Everton corner.

The Portuguese striker, in the meantime, missed a number of chances, while Vicario made a succession of excellent saves to ensure Tottenham went five matches on the road without defeat in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising the match official to check the goal on the screen and the referee ruled that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had interfered with the Spurs keeper.

The win elevates the manager's team into third place in the Premier League, a handful of points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

The Merseyside club stay 14th and are six points clear of the relegation zone.

After a uninspiring weekday display in the European competition against Monaco, where they mustered a mere attempts on goal, the manager chose the French striker in attack instead of former Toffees player Richarlison.

The new arrival was unable to influence the game before being substituted for the substitute after an hour on the pitch, but it turns out he proved unnecessary in the end.

Defender the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Tottenham's first goal came from a well-worked set-piece play, with the midfielder heading the ball toward the six-yard box for an unmarked Van de Ven to score.

And the captain - filling in as captain in Cristian Romero's absence - added his second in first-half stoppage time as he outjumped the England keeper to nod in.

Van de Ven was just as outstanding in defence, partnering effectively with his defensive colleague as the duo dealt superbly with the numerous deliveries sent their way by the opposition.

Everton analysis: Toffees missing striker's instinct

Everton's new home had been a fortress, but it appears the freshness may have worn off somewhat and supporters flocked to the exits after the midfielder's third for Tottenham.

The break in the team's unbeaten home run will not be a massive concern for David Moyes, but their striker situation will be.

The forward and the other striker - the Everton's pair of recognised centre-forwards - had netted only a single goal combined before the weekend's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that poor tally on a wet and gloomy night on in Liverpool.

The striker's form was summed up when he chose to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from near the goal, despite having room and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have challenged Vicario.

The substitute, as well, failed to influence the game after coming on for the starter in the 65th minute.

It was not for a lack of opportunity. The majority of the home side's offensive moves came through Grealish and Ndiaye, who tirelessly delivered dangerous crosses into the Tottenham penalty area.

The Toffees: The team travel to Sunderland in the Premier League on early November at 8 PM.

Tottenham: The London club travel to Newcastle's ground on late October for their next round League Cup tie against Newcastle.
